Photography Tip – Honing your skills
You must be asking yourself ‘how do I get better?’, to be honest with you this isn’t an easy one to answer … in fact there are many answers to this one; you could read more, watch more, practice more, shoot more, shadow someone knowledgeable or enroll in courses. I, for one, chose the hard way to hone my craft; I spent weeks on YouTube channels watching detailed tutorials on topics like depth of field, exposure, techniques, Photoshop, Lightroom, other specialized software and

Photography Tip – Getting into photography
So you’ve recently bought a professional camera, a decent lens & a trusty tripod … OK, but where do you go from there? We do realize there are many fields of photography, so diverse that you would get lost while venturing in them. We’re talking landscape photography, cityscape photography, wildlife photography, portraiture, street photography, macro photography, night photography, abstract photography, architecture photography, etc … Does that mean we have to go into each & ev

Photography Tip – Aperture & Shutter speed for creativity
We all know how to get a decent exposure (well, at least most of us!), but photography is not only about getting the exposure right … creativity needs to be involved if you want your images to stand out, to pop! So how do we do that? By buying extra accessories, filters & whatnot? No, right answer lies within your exposure settings; fiddling around with your exposure settings can give you amazing results. Alright, so it is obvious that an image captured handheld at f1.4 1/250

Photography Tip – Tripods
Look at almost all the best landscape / cityscape / night shots out there, what do they have in common (aside from their fascinating look & feel)? Well, they were taken on a tripod! Tripods are an essential part of any photographer’s gear. In fact, after you buy a DSLR & a decent lens, you should immediately consider an able tripod, simply because you can get much better results shooting with one than handheld. I for one have shaky hands, and I bet there are a thousand photog

Photography Tip – Lenses
Your camera kit usually comes with lenses, the cheaper the camera kit, the cheaper the lenses … accept that as a fact! If you are serious about your photography, I would suggest you drop those lenses off, and go shopping for a lens that fits your needs. To help you identify the lens that most suits your style, I would suggest reading through this post & probably doing some more research on the keywords that I shall mention. Lenses would typically fall under one of 5 major cat

Travel - Switzerland & France
A photographer’s dream is to travel the world, while hunting for that winner shot; that one picture that could rise him to fame. Well, unless you’re just happy clicking away memories of a beautiful vacation spent on the beaches of the Caribbean or Hawaii! Nevertheless, travel brings us opportunities to capture scenery, cultures, architecture that you wouldn’t have otherwise witnessed or recorded. After long planning & preparation, I got my opportunity to travel to the land of

Facebook Photography page
Being a member of the EPyC photography club, I had the opportunity to photograph a variety of different subjects & locals, something I was very proud of. I had lots of images in the pipeline waiting to be published on 500px. However, given the quota limitations set on their site & learning of Facebook’s promise to provide deep insights & statistics on critical details such as ‘unique visitors’ was a huge incentive to open a Photography based Facebook community page to showcas

EPyC – Emirates Photography Club
You may already know, understand & sympathize with the lonely life of a photographer. In fact, I’ve always found photographers to be comparable with cats, as they both go about hunting solitarily. At times I was so close to drop my gear, and look for a hobby that offers more socializing, probably that is when I stumbled upon EPyC on meetup.com page while looking for answers. It’s ironic that I ended up in a photography page when I was actually looking for anything but that! :

500px
By now, my Facebook album has become some sort of a hindrance to my advancement in the world of photography as only my Facebook friends had access to my images. Some might also argue that certain photos might not have been appropriate to be posted on a personal Facebook page album, therefore I had to expand my territory & audience. I got to learn of an image hosting website that granted some impressive features for free, it even granted me access to sell my uploaded images, h

Portraits & Candid shots
With my secret weapon now in hand, I wanted to photograph everyone I saw! No one was safe from me or my camera anymore! One of my favorite relaxing spots back then was a Costa coffee shop close to my home, I used to spend an hour or so sipping on my coffee & people watch. I then took it to the next level by carrying my camera & new lens along and snap shots of unsuspecting subjects, something that turned out to be called ‘Candid Photography’ … turns out I was good at it. :)
