Enter Sony Alpha!
To say I created a shockwave among my photography friends here in Dubai would be an understatement! It didn't make sense then, even now some find it hard to believe that an avid photography enthusiast such as myself would let go of one of the higher-end Canon cameras in favor of a new compact untested mirrorless Sony. Indeed, it was a risk, and one I proudly admit. I had been a Sony fan ever since my first Playstation console, and even though I didn't base my decision to swit

My first truly professional DSLR
It’s been on my mind for quite some time, my obsession about this camera never diminished & its price tag never deterred me either. I was keen on this purchase for I’ve now known the 5D Mark III by heart even though I hadn’t touched it. When the opportunity arrived, I took my hard earned cash to the nearest retail store & bought it. The kit I went for included the camera body along with its kit lens (the 24-105L f4 IS USM lens). Most bloggers on the net suggested to drop the

Obsession
It’s been more than a year since I purchased my first DSLR, I’ve been happily clicking away at my shutter, trying to capture the best images I possibly could. My camera has become one of my best companions, though one I deemed lacking. Yes, this camera body was not keeping up with my requirements & more often failing me. Being the gadget geek that I am, I’ve always followed up on the latest in technology, there was no shortage of photography news for me to stumble upon. Howev

Learning from those mistakes
Mistakes are part of any process, at times there is no evading them. This, in it’s own accord should not be considered a problem, however, it is important to learn from them. After all, we are talking about expensive gear here! I had to sit down & figure out what wrong I’ve done. That taught me a lot; first & foremost, never rush with gear purchases, to always read, read & read a little bit more reviews about the product I’m opting for, to consider whether that gear complimen

Mistakes
As you will all come to learn at some point, we sometimes make irrational purchases. We buy products based on wants rather than needs, we don’t consider how future-proof that product might be, we simply fall into a trap of unnecessary purchases in a moment of ecstasy. It’s true, as when I look back at all those products I mentioned on the previous post, perhaps the 50mm (nifty fifty) is the only one I still use to date. Let me better explain: Even though the Manfrotto compact

Shopping
As you might expect, the camera store was my own wonderland. In fact, if someone was ever considering robbing a bank, I would have perhaps considered robbing a camera store!!! :) There was simply so much to admire, so much to yearn for, so much wants yet so little of a budget. Yes, everyone wants a lens that creates a beautiful bokeh, everyone wants the sharpest of lenses, everyone wants a telephoto lens that could shoot Jupiter, everyone wants a lens that could capture the

Putting it into practice
In order to build on the knowledge I gained following Mark Wallace’s video tutorials, I had to go out there & shoot pictures; simply to put it into practice. There was so much information to process; ambient exposure, focusing, DOF, ISO, aperture, metering, flash exposure, photography rules, dos & don’ts. Quite simply, I was overwhelmed & didn’t know where to start. I was not helped by Dubai’s summer climate, as the heat & high humidity were continuously ruining my photos. Mo

The learning process
Following my consistent failure at capturing images worth sharing with friends & family, I owed it to myself to improve. An easy & costly option would have been to register into a photography class to attain the knowledge I required to better use my equipment. However, being from an IT background, I knew the internet was another viable option. After all, you could find literally anything on our world wide web! After approaching a few blogs, articles & whatnot about photograph

The journey’s origins
As many have done before myself, and as many would follow, I embarked on a journey nurtured by passion; passion towards capturing beauty & etching down those special moments that never return. I welcome you to join me on this journey which started no more than 3 years back when I bought my first DSLR: I was at the mall with my cousin (who happens to be a photography enthusiast), I’ve already made my intentions of purchasing a DSLR clear to him. Though, for some reason, I was
